Position one is the only structural difference. Alanine got an extra methyl group. Both have a His-Lys copper-binding site.
No studies confirm vendors’ claim that the extra methyl group enhances skin penetration. I need to see a logP, skin flux, or permeability side by side to believe it.

GHK-Cu’s human trials: boosted procollagen for 70% of participants. Better than vitamin C (50%) and tretinoin (40%). Firmness and density improved in 67 women over 12 weeks. Wrinkle volume reduced by 55.8% and beat Matrixyl 3000 by 31.6%.
AHK-Cu’s entire evidence base: Pyo 2007 studied 240 follicles from humans cultured for 12 days. Follicles elongated at 10⁻¹² to 10⁻⁹ molar. Higher doses inhibited growth. The anti-apoptotic result wasn’t statistically significant, and this detail vendors won’t tell us.

“AHK for Hair, GHK for Skin” Is Marketing
This is marketing so peptide sellers can sell AHK-CU without competing with GHK-Cu.
Two facts for you to know:
GHK-Cu has more evidence for hair than AHK-Cu. Uno and Kurata 1993 used copper peptides in macaques and fuzzy rats. Vellus-to-terminal follicle conversion is comparable to minoxidil. Can also raise VEGF, suppress TGF-β1, and activate follicle stem cells.
AHK-Cu’s own study showed skin effects. Fibroblast proliferation, VEGF, collagen relevance. Not a hair-only peptide.
The mechanisms almost overlap completely. Expected when two molecules are different with only one molecule group. The real thing is how much we know and not what they do.

Can You Use Both?
Yes. Serums usually are 8-10% GHK-Cu with 5% AHK-Cu.
No study has tested them together. Only positive reviews are from people who tried it for at least 4-6 months. Hair growth with copper peptides takes time, but the time and effort pay off.
Meaningful rules for either:
- Keep both away from vitamin C and acids. Low pH hurts copper from the complex.
- Target pH 5 to 6.5. Both degrade outside this range.
- Blue-purple means intact. White, faded, or green powder happens when the copper has left. The serum is useless.
- Penetration is the real limit. Microneedle-treated skin absorbed measurable peptide and copper in a 2015 study; intact skin absorbed almost none.
