I’ve used kratom since 2016. Regular powder worked at first. Then, like most long-term users, I went looking for the strongest kratom I could find.

Here’s what the “extra strength” labels won’t tell you: strength isn’t a strain name. It’s one measurable number, the mitragynine per serving. So this guide ranks the most potent kratom products by that number, straight from the label, and tells you which strains are actually strong and which are just marketing. So what’s the strongest kratom available right now? Quick answer: the strongest kratom you can buy is a plant-derived liquid extract. What makes kratom strong?

Kratom’s strength comes from its alkaloids, and one matters most: mitragynine. It’s the main active alkaloid, and how much of it you get per serving is the best single measure of how strong a product is.

Raw leaf varies more than most people think. In a 2023 study of 745 Thai leaf samples, mitragynine ranged from 0.39% to 3.46% of dry weight. Season and growing region drove most of the difference: leaves harvested in the rainy summer months tested highest. Most commercial powder lands around 1–2%, which works out to roughly 10–20 mg of mitragynine per gram.

Three things decide how strong a product actually feels:

• Mitragynine per serving. This is the number to compare. Extracts list it in milligrams; for powder, look for the percentage on the batch COA.
• Extraction quality. Good extraction concentrates the alkaloids. Cheap, overheated extraction degrades them, leaving a weaker product than the label suggests.
• Your own metabolism and tolerance. The same product can feel very different to two people, and weaker to you after months of daily use.

If you want the strongest kratom powder, or an extra strength kratom powder with high alkaloid content for energy or relaxation, rather than an extract, Maeng Da is the strain most users reach for. It has the reputation of the strongest kratom strain, and it’s a sensible choice for daily use because powder builds tolerance more slowly than extracts and costs far less per dose. Just remember the research below: the batch matters more than the name.

What is the strongest kratom strain? What the research says

This is where most “strongest strain” lists go wrong. Vendors sell red, green and white veins as if they were different strengths. The science says otherwise:

• The same Thai study found that vein color made no significant difference to alkaloid content. Red-veined and green-veined leaves produced similar levels.
• In a 2023 study of 644 kratom users, users reported clear differences between strains: white felt most energizing, red most relaxing. But lab testing found no significant differences in alkaloid content between the strains, and the authors suggest marketing expectations may shape part of what people feel.

So which kratom is the strongest, and which kratom strain is strongest? The one with the highest mitragynine on its COA, whatever the name. The strongest version of kratom is simply the best-testing batch. Strain names are still useful for choosing the kind of effect people commonly report, as long as you don’t treat them as a strength rating. Strongest form of kratom: shots vs powder vs tablets

The format matters as much as the strain, because it decides how concentrated each dose is. From most to least potent:

1. Liquid extract shots: the strongest type of kratom you can legally buy, with 50–85 mg of mitragynine per serving in the products above.
2. Extract powders and concentrates: more concentrated than leaf. The strongest kratom concentrate products vary widely by brand, so compare milligrams, not claims.
3. Enhanced powders and strong kratom powder mixtures: leaf powder blended with extract. Stronger than plain leaf, but you need the COA to know by how much.
4. Tablets and capsules: usually plain leaf, pressed or encapsulated. Even the strongest kratom tablets and pills are only as strong as the leaf or extract inside, so the most potent kratom tablets are simply the ones listing the most mitragynine. The exception is “hydroxy” tablets (see below), and the same goes for so-called strongest kratom extract tablets: check what’s actually in them.
5. Raw leaf powder: the baseline, the most forgiving on tolerance and the cheapest.

Extract ratios explained: what 15x and 50x really mean

Extract labels love big multipliers. A number like 15x or 50x originally described how much raw leaf went into the extract, so a 50x extract used more leaf than a 15x one. Today brands use these multipliers loosely, and they don’t guarantee strength.

The honest potency number is milligrams of mitragynine per serving. Zenith’s 83 mg per serving tells you far more than “50x” ever could. When you compare extracts, ignore the multiplier and read the milligrams.

Are hydroxy (7-OH) shots and tablets stronger? Why we don’t recommend them

Yes, and that’s the problem. “Hydroxy” shots and tablets are built around concentrated 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH). It occurs naturally in kratom only in tiny amounts, and it acts far more strongly on the brain’s opioid receptors than mitragynine does. The FDA warns that these products carry a real risk of dependence and harm.

Regulators have moved fast. In July 2026, the DEA moved to place 7-OH above 1 mg per package (for extracts, edibles and tablets) in Schedule I, alongside three synthetic derivatives that were scheduled on 26 August 2026. Several states already ban 7-OH products, and even Kraken no longer sells them.

Our rule: buy plant-derived mitragynine products and skip anything marketed as “hydroxy” or “7-OH”. If a shop product looks unusually strong for its price, check the COA for 7-OH before you buy. Be especially careful with gas stations and smoke shops that advertise themselves as the strongest kratom shops: “extra strength” products there are often 7-OH.

Is strong kratom legal where you live?

Kratom leaf isn’t federally controlled, but it’s banned in several states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Vermont and Wisconsin, and temporarily in Massachusetts. Why the strongest kratom stops feeling strong

The strongest kratom available will eventually feel weaker. Regular use builds tolerance, and what felt powerful at first becomes moderate within months. The more potent the product, the faster that happens. That’s the hidden cost of chasing stronger kratom, or the most potent kratom extract, every day.

• Rotate strains instead of raising the amount.
• Take breaks. Even a few days off restores some sensitivity.
• Save extracts for occasional use, and use powder day to day.
• Keep the dose steady. A lower, stable amount preserves sensitivity better than constant increases.

How to verify you’re getting real strength

High quality kratom is verifiable, and potency claims mean nothing without proof. Labels saying “extra strength kratom” or “kratom extra strength” aren’t regulated terms. To find the strongest kratom powder with the highest alkaloid content, check:

• Mitragynine on the label: milligrams per serving for extracts, or a percentage on the batch COA for powder.
• A batch-specific COA from an independent lab, with a lot number that matches your product.
• 7-OH content: it should be trace or not detected in plant-derived products.

• Realistic numbers: honest labs show variation from batch to batch, not the same perfect figure every time.

Safety first with strong kratom

Stronger products mean more risk. Start with part of a serving, wait at least an hour, and never take a second dose in the same session. Don’t combine kratom with alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines or other sedatives. Extracts aren’t for beginners, anyone under 21, or anyone who is pregnant or on medication. Talk to a doctor first.
