Red Borneo kratom is easy to find and hard to buy well. Most vendors sell something with that name. Far fewer can show you what’s in the bag.

So we compared 8 vendors on what decides quality. That means batch-specific lab reports, mitragynine percentage, certification, freshness and price per gram. Three of them stand out, and below you’ll see which one fits what you care about.

Short answer

Cheapest tested option: New Dawn Kratom at $79.99/kilo, AKA GMP certified.
Most lab data: Kona Kratom, 1.88% mitragynine disclosed on an 8-alkaloid panel.
Biggest track record: Golden Monk, AKA Platinum, 475,000+ orders.

Every vendor here publishes batch-specific Certificates of Analysis (COAs). If a vendor you’re considering can’t show you one, walk away.

Check your state first. Red Borneo is banned in Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Louisiana, Rhode Island, Vermont and Wisconsin. Don’t order if you live there. More in the legal section.

What Red Borneo is, and what the name means

Borneo is the world’s third-largest island, and Indonesia controls roughly 75% of it. Red Borneo comes from the Kalimantan region, mostly West Kalimantan.

The “red” refers to the leaf veins. They redden as the leaf matures, and that’s when harvesters pick it, because alkaloid concentration is highest then.

The profile is different from other red strains. Red Borneo has elevated 7-hydroxymitragynine, which is associated with sedative and analgesic effects. It also carries corynoxine A and B, which show up less often in other reds and add to the calming quality. Experienced users also recognize the smell. It’s a faint sweet jasmine with dark licorice.

Red Borneo runs gentler than Red Maeng Da and meaningfully stronger than Red Bali. That’s the reason people pick it. It’s also why the name gets abused, and why the lab report matters more than the label.

How we ranked these vendors

We scored each vendor on five things:

  • AKA GMP certification. You can verify it at americankratom.org. It means annual audits, hygiene standards and required testing.
  • Batch-specific COAs. A QR code or batch number linking to results from an accredited third-party lab. Mitragynine %, 7-hydroxymitragynine, heavy metals, microbials and mold.
  • Freshness and sourcing. Vendors who grind to order or guarantee a freshness window ship stronger product.
  • Price per gram. What you pay per kilo at standard quantities, with free-shipping thresholds counted.
  • Community reputation. We checked r/kratom, r/Vendorsofkratom2 and third-party review platforms.

Pricing, ratings and lab figures below come from vendor pages and COAs as of June 2026. Vendors change prices, so check the product page before you order.

The 8 best places to buy Red Borneo kratom in 2026

1. New Dawn Kratom: best value for AKA-certified Red Borneo

Best for: budget buyers who won’t compromise on testing.

New Dawn launched in September 2020 and has 19,000+ verified Google reviews. Red Borneo is $79.99/kilo for powder and $129.99/kilo for capsules. Shipping is free at $45.

Their batch COAs show mitragynine between 1.2% and 1.6%. That spread tells you they test every batch instead of reusing one good result. At 1.4%, a 4g dose is roughly 56mg of mitragynine, a solid working dose for most people.

The 45-day money-back guarantee covers opened product. That’s longer than most vendors offer.

One thing to know. New Dawn calls their Red Borneo “less sedating than Red Bali but still delivering strong relaxation.” That’s odd for this strain. If you want the heavier West Kalimantan profile, test it yourself, because Kona and Golden Monk batches tend to run heavier.

Pricing: $39.99/250g, $59.99/500g, $79.99/kg powder. Capsules $39.99/350, $69.99/700, $129.99/1500.

Verdict: AKA GMP certification, a strong community record and the lowest price on this list. This is the one most people should start with.

2. Kona Kratom: best for lab data

Best for: people who want to know exactly what’s in the batch before they order.

Kona tests each batch against 8 alkaloids and screens for 20+ contaminants. That’s more than anyone else here. Current Red Borneo batches show about 1.88% mitragynine, the highest disclosed figure on the list.

They source through Indonesian co-ops that pay above-market rates for sustainable harvesting, and the batch documentation is traceable. Free shipping starts at $29.99, the lowest threshold here. But the kilo price is $160.99, the highest.

You’re paying for the documentation and the 8-alkaloid panel. If the numbers on the COA matter to you, it’s worth it. If you just want tested kratom at a fair price, New Dawn or Golden Monk is the better deal.

Pricing: $54.99/250g, $90.99/500g, $160.99/kg. Capsules from $58.99/350ct.

Verdict: the pick for hard alkaloid data. No other vendor on this list discloses as much.

3. Golden Monk: best track record

Best for: buyers who want a big, credentialed vendor with fast shipping.

Golden Monk has served 75,000+ customers across 475,000+ orders. Their Red Borneo comes from West Kalimantan farmers using traditional harvesting. They hold AKA Platinum certification, and an ISO-certified lab tests for 20+ contaminants.

Shipping is same-day on orders before 2 PM Mountain, Monday to Friday. Free shipping starts at $99.99. COAs are available.

There’s one gap. They don’t prominently publish per-batch mitragynine percentages. That’s where Kona pulls ahead. For a wider comparison, see our best kratom brands guide.

Pricing: $39.99/250g, $69.99/500g, $89.99/kg. Capsules from $44.99/250ct to $254.99/2000ct.

Verdict: the safe default. Large, credentialed, fast, and trusted by the community for years.

4. Super Speciosa: best capsules

Best for: capsule users who want ISO 17025 lab results and consistent dosing.

Super Speciosa runs an FDA-registered, GMP-qualified facility in Florida and holds AKA certification. Every batch goes through Cora Science, an ISO 17025 accredited lab. That’s the strictest independent accreditation standard in this category.

Their Red Borneo capsules hold 500mg of pure leaf powder, no fillers. Batch 0003564 shows 1.30% mitragynine and 2.12% total alkaloids. That’s lower than Kona’s 1.88%, but the accreditation makes the number more believable than most vendor claims. Rating is 4.91/5 from 75 verified reviews. On subscription, the 1000-count works out to $0.60 per serving.

They position Red Borneo as an evening and sleep product. If you want a daytime profile, compare it against our guide to the best kratom for sleep.

Pricing: $16.00/60ct, with subscription discounts up to 55% off at 1000-count.

Verdict: the capsule pick if accreditation matters to you. 1.30% isn’t the highest figure here, but it’s the best-tested one.

5. Happy Hippo Herbals: best for beginners

Best for: first-timers who want small quantities and clear dosing guidance.

Happy Hippo has operated since 2013. Their Red Borneo is called “Happy Hippo II” and sits at “Moderate” on their speed scale. You won’t get floored, which is the right entry point.

Sizes start at $8.99/oz, so you can try it before you commit. They spent over $100,000 and nine months reaching AKA GMP compliance. Every batch is third-party tested and the COAs are public. Rating is 4.7/5 from 587 reviews.

At scale it’s roughly $90/kilo, a small premium over New Dawn or Golden Monk. You’re paying for small entry sizes, a clear effects scale and a brand that has thought about first-timers.

Pricing: $8.99/oz, tiered up to $559/5kg powder. Capsules from 100ct to 500ct.

Verdict: right if you’re new to Red Borneo. Not the cheapest at scale.

6. Kats Botanicals: best for custom blends

Best for: experienced users who want control over their Red Borneo ratio.

Kats doesn’t sell Red Borneo on its own. You get it through their My Blend system. Pick up to three strains from 14+ options, set the ratios and get 300 grams of a custom blend. A QR code on the label lets you reorder in one scan.

The default Red Borneo blend is 60% Red Vein and 40% Green Vein. That mixes deep relaxation with enough green to stay clear-headed. You can go 100% Red for a heavier profile. They’re based in Tennessee, have operated since 2016, hold AKA GMP certification and have 10,000+ five-star reviews. COAs are lot-specific.

One limit. Custom blends ship as three sealed strain bags that you mix yourself, and you can’t return them once shipped.

Pricing: $49.99/300g My Blend ($34.99 with code BLEND15).

Verdict: worth it if you know the blend you want. Skip it if you just want standard Red Borneo powder.

7. Kratora: best ethical sourcing

Best for: buyers who care more about the supply chain than the marketing.

Kratora has operated since 2013 and buys direct from tribal communities in Malaysia and Indonesia instead of commercial brokers. They harvest from untouched forests and use traditional drying methods.

Their Borneo content covers 7-hydroxymitragynine levels, terpenoid and indole alkaloid content and the birch-bark-like compound found in Borneo leaf. It reads like education, and the sales pitch comes second. They’re Fair Trade committed and run a Certificate of Authenticity process. Red Vein Borneo starts at $10.99. Shipping is same-day before 3 PM EST Monday to Friday, and 1 PM EST on Saturday. There’s a 30-day money-back guarantee, 70,000+ customers and a 4.9/5 overall rating.

The trade-off is certification. Kratora is an AKA Member, not fully GMP certified, and its Reddit presence is smaller than New Dawn’s. If GMP certification is a must for you, take that into account.

Pricing: from $10.99. Code BLOG15 gives 15% off your first order.

Verdict: the pick if you care about where the leaf comes from.

8. PurKratom: best organic option

Best for: people who want organic Red Borneo with a subscription option.

PurKratom launched in 2017 in Florida with AKA cGMP certification. They test for heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury), aerobic plate count, yeast and mold, coliforms, E. coli and salmonella. They have 17,459 verified customer reviews across the store.

Red Vein Borneo powder is $31.99/6oz ($46.99/9oz), with 15% off on Subscribe and Save. Capsules are $26.99. Shipping is free at $75+. The Red Borneo product itself is rated 4.6/5 from 325 verified reviews, including several multi-year repeat buyers.

Recent feedback has one recurring complaint. Popular strains go out of stock. If Red Borneo is sold out, you may have to wait.

Pricing: $31.99/6oz ($46.99/9oz) powder. $26.99 capsules. 15% off with Subscribe and Save.

Verdict: the organic pick, with good repeat-buyer retention.

Red Borneo price per gram

Vendors use different unit sizes, so comparing them is a pain. Here’s what standard bulk pricing works out to per gram:

Kona Kratom$54.99$90.99$160.99$0.16/g

New Dawn and Golden Monk sit at $0.08 to $0.09 per gram at kilo size. That’s close to the floor for AKA GMP-tested product. Kona’s $0.16 pays for the 8-alkaloid panel and per-batch mitragynine disclosure.

Discounts: Golden Monk has a 10% subscription discount, PurKratom’s Subscribe and Save is 15%, and New Dawn’s newsletter regularly includes 20% off codes.

What to watch out for when buying Red Borneo

Our kratom brands to avoid guide names specific vendors with documented problems. These are the red flags:

  • No batch-specific COA. A generic lab test from 18 months ago tells you nothing about the bag you’re ordering.
  • No mitragynine percentage. A 4g dose at 1.2% is about 48mg of mitragynine. At 1.9% it’s about 76mg. If a vendor won’t give you that number, they either don’t know it or don’t want you to.
  • Suspiciously low prices. Under $5/oz usually means contaminated product or weak leaf. Quality AKA GMP material starts around $8/oz.
  • Health claims. “Cures pain,” “treats anxiety” and “replaces opioids” break FDA rules. A vendor that says that isn’t operating within compliance.
  • Gas station kratom. Local shops charge 2 to 3 times the online price, sell product that’s sat on shelves for months and almost never have COAs. Our guide on where to buy quality kratom has the full comparison.

Red Borneo dosage: what the community reports

The FDA hasn’t approved kratom for any medical use. This is what community survey data and user reports point to, not medical advice:

  • 1-2g: threshold dose for first-timers testing their sensitivity.
  • 2-4g: a lighter, more functional effect.
  • 4-6g: where Red Borneo’s relaxation is most obvious.
  • Above 6g: increasingly sedating, and more likely to cause nausea or dizziness in newer users.

Effects start at 15 to 30 minutes, peak at 1 to 2 hours and last 3 to 5 hours in the 4-6g range. Body weight, metabolism, tolerance and what’s in your stomach all move those numbers.

If you switch vendors, the batch mitragynine percentage matters more than the gram weight. Say your usual vendor is at 1.3% and you move to Kona at 1.88%. The same gram weight will hit harder, so start lower.

When people report a bad experience with Red Borneo, it usually traces back to stale product, a low-potency batch or the wrong dose. The strain is rarely the cause.

Some people use kratom for pain or physical discomfort. Talk to a doctor first, especially if you take other medications, because kratom can interact with them. And if you’re thinking about stepping down from regular use, read how to step down from regular kratom use before you plan anything.

Kratom is banned in Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Louisiana (complete ban effective August 2025), Rhode Island, Vermont and Wisconsin.

Another 24 states have Kratom Consumer Protection Acts with age limits (18 to 21+), testing rules and alkaloid caps. Arizona, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah prohibit products where 7-hydroxymitragynine is above 2% of total alkaloids. Every vendor on this list meets that standard, and reputable vendors refuse to ship to restricted states.

Laws change often. Check your state and city rules before you order. The American Kratom Association tracks them.
