DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) is a nine-amino-acid peptide first isolated from rabbits in 1977. Two small insomnia trials from 1987 disagree, it did not change cortisol in people, and it is not FDA-approved.

  • Sleep: one 1987 trial found little clinical benefit and another reported better sleep, both in small groups (1, 2).
  • Cortisol (the stress hormone): no effect in healthy men (3).
  • Law: not approved, and an FDA advisory committee voted against listing it for compounding in July 2026 (4).
  • Buying: three sellers below post lot reports from named labs.

What is DSIP?

DSIP is the peptide Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu, about 849 Da in weight. Brain infusion in rabbits increased delta (slow-wave) and spindle brain activity (5). FDA lists it as emideltide (DSIP) (6). It is not approved for any use, and its human evidence is a handful of small studies from the 1980s and 1990s.

What do the human studies show?

How to read the table. Benefit reported: the authors reported improvement. No clear benefit, No control group: results too weak to rely on. No effect: no change from placebo.

Human studies of DSIP
StudyWhat it foundMain limit
Insomnia, 4 nights, crossover (1987)No clear benefitEach person got both DSIP and placebo. Total sleep time and NREM (non-dream) sleep rose, mainly stage 2, but the same differences existed at baseline. Deep slow-wave sleep and REM (dream) sleep did not change. The authors called the improvement of little clinical significance (1)Small, given through a vein (IV) in a clinic
Severe insomnia, 14 people, 7 nights (1987)Benefit reportedNight sleep improved, sleep efficiency reached the level of normal controls, and daytime alertness and performance rose (2)One author, 14 people, never repeated
Cortisol, healthy men (1995)No effectResponses of ACTH (a pituitary stress hormone) and cortisol were almost identical to placebo in 5 men per condition, and unchanged in a meal test with 10 men (3)Tiny groups of healthy men
Opiate and alcohol withdrawal, 107 inpatients (1984)No control groupSymptoms disappeared or improved markedly in 97% of opiate and 87% of alcohol patients who could be evaluated. A few patients had headaches (7)No placebo group is mentioned. 13% to 22% could not be evaluated

Nobody has repeated either sleep trial with modern methods, and neither tells you what a nasal spray or injection sold online does. No DSIP trial is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov.

Is there a DSIP protocol?

No validated human protocol exists. The studies above gave DSIP by IV or injection in clinics. This page does not list doses, cycles or stacks.

  • Not approved. FDA says compounded DSIP may pose an immunogenicity risk (an immune reaction) and that it has found no safety information for the proposed route (6).
  • July 2026 vote. FDA’s compounding advisory committee voted 6 for and 7 against, with 1 abstention, on emideltide. It backed six other peptides. FDA staff opposed all seven (4, 8).
  • HHS policy. The 28 October 2026 interim policy names six peptides. DSIP is not one of them (9).

Is DSIP safe?

Nobody knows. FDA says it lacks the information to know whether compounded DSIP would cause harm (6). In the 1984 withdrawal report, a few patients had headaches (7).

How do you check a DSIP vial?

  • Match the lot number on your vial to a lab report.
  • Check for a named lab you can look up, as in the Elite Edge report from MZ Biolabs.
  • Look for identity data from mass spectrometry alongside the purity number. Elite Edge lists 848.31 Da measured against 848.33 Da expected.
  • Check for an endotoxin or sterility result. Platinum Biolabs posts a separate endotoxin report.
  • Walk away if there is no report, the price is far below other sellers, or the seller has an FDA warning letter.

DSIP FAQ

What is DSIP?

DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) is a nine-amino-acid peptide first isolated from rabbits in 1977. It increased slow-wave brain activity in rabbits. It is not approved for any use, and human evidence is limited to small studies from the 1980s and 1990s.

Is DSIP the same as emideltide?

Yes. FDA lists the peptide as emideltide (DSIP) on its compounding risk page.

Does DSIP work for sleep?

Not clearly. A 1987 crossover trial found little clinical benefit, while a 1987 study of 14 severe insomniacs reported better night sleep and daytime performance. Both were small and neither has been repeated.

Is there a DSIP protocol?

No validated human protocol exists. The human studies gave DSIP by IV or injection in clinics, and this page does not list doses, cycles or stacks.

Does DSIP lower cortisol?

No human study supports it. In healthy men, ACTH and cortisol responses to DSIP were almost identical to placebo.

Is DSIP FDA-approved?

No. FDA lists it as a compounding risk, and its advisory committee voted 6 for and 7 against, with 1 abstention, on adding it to the 503A bulks list in July 2026. The HHS policy of 28 October 2026 does not cover it.

Is DSIP safe?

Nobody knows. FDA says it lacks the information to know whether compounded DSIP would cause harm, and it flags an immunogenicity risk for some routes.

Where can you find third-party tested DSIP?

Amino Club, Elite Edge Biotech and Platinum Biolabs each post a lot report with purity data from a named lab. Match the lot number on your vial to the report, and use our COA guide to read it.
